Tyson H. Brown is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Medicine at Duke University, where he holds the W.L.F. endowed chair. He is also the Associate Scientific Director of Social Sciences at the Center on Aging. Professor Brown’s program of research focuses on the scientific study of structural racism as a fundamental cause of health inequality. By developing theoretically-informed, innovative and rigorous methods for quantifying structural racism and its effects on population health, his research provides empirical evidence on why racialized health inequities exist, and also offers insights into how they can be addressed.
